"Duga"-1 is one of three Soviet over-the-horizon radar stations for an early detection system for intercontinental ballistic missile launches. It is located in the secret military town "Chernobyl-2" 15 kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant deep in a forest. The radar and military city with living area, kindergarten, school, shops, soldier's club etc. are currently abandoned. For the characteristic sound on the air, which has been generating during work of the radar, it was named Russian Woodpecker.
